07-24-09 ESPAÑOLA LIFTS STAGE 4 WATER RESTRICTIONS
|
As of July 24, 2009, the City of Española has lifted the
Stage 4 water restrictions imposed by the City Council at an emergency meeting
July 15th. The Stage 4
restrictions were implemented after the city’s water tank number two developed
a major leak on July 13th, spilling nearly a million gallons of
water down Industrial Park Road. The
loss of the tank meant the city had to take well number two, the city’s largest
producing well, offline until water from the well could be rerouted, away from
tank number two.
The Stage 4 restrictions included prohibiting watering lawns
and washing cars by residents using city water, and required commercial car
washes and Laundromats to reduce their water use by 27%.
The city has gone back to Stage 3 restrictions, which allow
lawns to be watered on days assigned based on location, have no restrictions on
car washing, and don’t require commercial water customers to limit water use,
although the city can impose fines for using more than 20,000 gallons of water
a month.
